Continue stopping at historic villages which have not changed in 100 years, with overnight stops in towns such as Oudtshoorn, famous for its ostrich industry and the Cango Caves. Visit Knysna, home to the Knysna oyster (and an annual oyster festival!). And then there is the fashionable Plettenberg Bay, holiday playground of South Africa’s rich and famous.
The Garden Route trip can take from 3 to five days depending on what you decide to do. It goes from mild to wild – you select the temperature. From relaxed beer tastings to Bungi jumping (yes, just outside Plettenberg Bay you can defy death as you leap off and take on the highest commercial bungi jump in the world) – in between – there are the famous oyster restaurants and all other manner of delectable cuisine, horse riding, hiking, water-skiing, boat-based whale & dolphin watching, scuba diving, the famous Knysna Elephant Park or monkey about at Monkeyland! Oh, did we mention you can jump out of planes and take in the spectacular scenery from 10 000 ft!? You don’t want to miss the Garden Route.
