Robben Island & The Waterfront

Robben Island lies 10 kilometres north of Cape Town and can be reached by regular ferry rides.
This was a penal island until recently, with its most famous inhabitant being Nelson Mandela, who spent 17 of his 27 years of incarceration there. The tours last 3 and a half hours from arrival to departure and are conducted by former political prisoners. Finish the day with a contrast so much the very fabric of all that is South African, by going shopping at the V & A Waterfront, a working harbour, entertainment and world-class retail centre.
